Feather Badge
Now that you know Surf...
It's time to explore some areas you previously haven't had access to. We will explain how to travel to the ones you can visit right now. Start by going down Route 104 and exploring the path that Briney took you on.
Route 104
Exit Rustboro City to the west and go down to the beach. Teach a Pokémon the Surf move and get going to the south. You're on Route 105!
Route 105
Wild Pokémon: Tentacool, Wingull, Wailmer, Pelipper, Magikarp
You were on Route 105 before, but only in a boat. Now you'll get an opportunity to capture Pokémon, gather items and battle trainers you zipped by before.
Swimmer Dawn
Marill: Level 27
Swimmer Beverly
Wailmer: Level 26
Wailmer: Level 26
On the western edge of this waterway, you'll encounter a long vertical island. Search it to find a trainer.
Ruin Maniac Foster
Sandshrew: Level 26
Sandslash: Level 26
Once you beat Foster, Surf on the west side of this island. Beat this trainer:
Swimmer Austin
Magikarp: Level 25
Tentacool: Level 25
Wingull: Level 25
When you're done, Surf up to the rock formation to the north. As with the rock in the desert, this one will turn into a cave (Island Cave) when you decipher the message in the Sealed Chamber. Make sure to return here to get a rare Pokémon once you do. For now, though, exit back to the main route and continue south. At the southern tip of the island is another trainer.
Swimmer Luis
Carvanha: Level 27
Once you handle Luis, Surf south, sticking to the western rocks. Search the islands here to find an Iron. Then move south to Route 106.
Route 106
Wild Pokémon: Wingull, Tentacool, Magikarp, Pelipper, Wailmer
Route 106 is more of the same. More water creatures, and more trainers.
Swimmer Nicole
Wailmer: Level 27
Swimmer Douglas
Tentacool: Level 26
Tentacool: Level 26
As soon as you can, get to the sandy beach to the south, because after Douglas there isn't anything interesting in the water. There is, however, a Protein on the beach. After that, you're in Dewford Town!
Dewford Town
Heal up, then head out. On the east side of Dewford Town is the dock where Briney awaits. But you don't need him now that you have Surf. Head to the east, past Briney, then hop into the waves and cruise down Route 107.
Route 107
Wild Pokémon: Wingull, Tentacool, Magikarp, Pelipper, Wailmer
Route 107 is a long, straight waterway with few surprises and no Items. There are trainers here, though.
Swimmer Beth

Route 108
Wild Pokémon: Wingull, Tentacool, Magikarp, Pelipper, Wailmer

Swimmer Jerome
Tentacool: Level 26
Wingull: Level 26
Swimmer Missy
Goldeen: Level 24
Wingull: Level 24
Marill: Level 24
Wailmer: Level 24
Once you put down Swimmer Missy, head north to find the Abandoned Boat.
The Abandoned Boat is stuffed with Items and even more trainers. It is a little bit puzzling to find your way once aboard, though. Watch out for holes in the floor, and pay attention to where you've already been. When you first board, go up the gangplank and into the door on the right.
There's a boy in this room, but he isn't a trainer. Head into the busted door to the left. This will take you into a four square of rooms. In the back right corner is an old man. He gives you nothing. In the back left room, there is Harbor Mail. Once you get it, exit the room and go down the stairs in the back right corner.
Several cabins wait in this downstairs area. Before checking them out, have a quick battle with the trainer in the hall.
Sailor Duncan
Wailmer: Level 26
Machoke: Level 26
Once he falls, explore the cabins to the south. In the middle one, you'll notice a patch of water. This will only come in handy when you have the Dive skill, when you can return and collect Items from a group of six rooms. Get TM18 (Rain Dance), the Water Stone and a Scanner here. Remember to come back!
The leftmost cabin in this row contains an Escape Rope. Grab it, then go back to the hall. Go straight across the hall and search the two cabins here. In the right one, you'll locate a Dive Ball. The left one contains a clueless kid. Exit back to the hall and go up the left staircase. When you arrive back upstairs, a trainer rushes up.
Tuber Charlie
Marill: Level 27
When you beat the kid, search the only cabin here to find Revive. Then head to the lower half of the room and take on the duo.
Young Couple Lois & Hal (Simultaneous)
Volbeat: Level 27
Illumise: Level 27
When you're done here, exit to the south. On deck, head up the stairs and search inside the room to find the Storage Key. Head back downstairs, then go downstairs again. On the far right of the bottom room, use the Storage Key on a locked door to get the TM13 (Ice Beam). Once you have it, go back up to the deck via the right staircase and exit the boat. Remember to come back when you have Dive, though.
Route 108
Route 108 One trainer remains on the route. After you beat him, continue east until you reach Route 109.
Swimmer Matthew
Carvanha: Level 27
Route 109
Wild Pokémon: Wingull, Tentacool, Magikarp, Pelipper, Wailmer
When you get to Route 109, hop onto the closest island for another fight.
Fisherman Carter

An island to the east contains a PP Up. Once you have it, Surf over to the west for another duo brawl.

When they go down, take on two swimmers, then a small girl on the island to the east.

Marill: Level 27
When you've defeated everyone, step on the beach and head up to Slateport City.
Slateport City
Since you haven't been to Slateport City for awhile, there are a couple of new things to do (aside from tracking down Team Magma/Aqua, which is why you're really here). First and foremost, if you've gotten Normal and Super Ribbons, you can now enter the Hyper Rank Contest at the Contest Hall. Check our Contests section for more information.
You can also get a discount on the Secret Store at the north end of the open air market, as long as you have TM43 (Secret Power). Here's what you can now buy:

Route 110/ Cycling Road/ Mauville City
Go north to Route 110, and use your bike to get on the Cycling Road to make the trip to Mauville City a little faster. Once you get to Mauville City, head east on Route 118.
Route 118
Wild Pokémon: Linoone, Electrike, Wingull, Tentacool, Zigzagoon, Sharpedo, Pelipper, Magikarp, Carhvanha
Route 118 leads to the water, where you'll have to surf in order to get to your next destination. But you'll have to battle through some trainers to get there.

Once you dismiss all of the trainers, Surf across to the opposite beach. When you get there, speak to the fisherman on the east shore. Say "yes" to his question to get the Good Rod. Then go say hi to some old friends... Interviewers Gabby and Ty.
Interviewers Gabby & Ty
Magnemite: Level 27
Loudred: Level 27
Again, after the fight, they'll want to conduct an interview. Pick out a phrase you think is groovy, and watch for it the next time you're around a TV. Then move east and take on the next trainer.
Fisherman Barny
Carvanha: Level 26
Carvanha: Level 26
Once he falls, move slightly north and you'll be greeted by Steven. He tells you to raise Pokémon of many different types. When he leaves, cut the nearby tree to get to the Sitrus Berries to the north. Then move east and take on the trainers you find there.
Bird Keeper Perry
Wingull: Level 27
Bird Keeper Chester
Taillow: Level 26
Swellow: Level 26
Make sure you grab the Hyper Potion to the east, then go back and take the northern path up to Route 119.
Route 119
Wild Pokémon: Linoone, Tropius, Zigzagoon, Magikarp, Tentacool, Carvanha, Feebas, Oddish
Route 119 is a wide, grassy area that can only be traveled by foot. If your Pokémon are weak, you may want to think about running back to Mauville City and filling up on supplies and healing your Pokémon before moving on. As you head north, you'll find a trainer to the east, two to the west, and one in the middle.
Bug Catcher Doug
Nincada: Level 26
Nincada: Level 26

Bug Catcher Greg
Volbeat: Level 26
Illumise: Level 26
Right next to Bug Catcher Greg is a Super Repel.
Bug Maniac Brent
Surskit: Level 27
To the east of Brent is a Hyper Potion. Grab it and head north. Go past the house here and run through the tall grass. Search the trees here for Sitrus and Leppa Berries. If you have the Acro Bike, use it on the rails to the west to get across the water and collect a Zinc. Once you've cleared the area, return to the main path and go up the steps to the rocky plateau. Before you cross the bridge here, you'll have to face a trainer.
Pokémon Ranger Catherine
Gloom: Level 27
Roselia: Level 27
Cross the bridge to the east and follow the path to another trainer standing next to a patch of tall grass.
Pokémon Ranger Jackson
Breloom: Level 28
After you waste him, head north through the grass to face another dude.
Bird Keeeper Phil
Taillow: Level 25
Wingull: Level 25
Swellow: Level 25
Snag the Hyper Potion to the northwest of the trainer. When you're done, search the grass patch to the east to find an Elixir (near the water). Then climb the steps and you'll be surprised by a disguised ninja.
Ninja Boy Takashi
Nincada: Level 25
Koffing: Level 25
Ninjask: Level 25
When you beat him, move north toward the bridge. A couple of Team Grunts are blocking the bridge, so head inside the Weather Institute to clear things up.
The Weather Institute will offer you the opportunity to quickly rest. Once you enter the door, go to the left to find a bed, and take a snooze, revitalizing your party. There's also a PC in the corner near the bed, and it's a good idea to put one of your Pokémon away (if traveling with a full team), because the gift of a Pokémon is upcoming. Then head over to the other side of the room to tangle with a pair of Team Grunts.
Team Grunt
Numel: Level 28
Team Grunt
Zubat: Level 27
Poochyena: Level 27
When those jokers go down, head up the stairs and take on that room. These guys reveal they are after a special kind of weather Pokémon that the Institute has created. Whoop 'em!

Aqua/Magma Admin Courtney
Numel: Level 28
Mightyena: Level 28
Once the battle is over, the professor you saved gives you the Pokémon Castform (Level 25). If you don't have room for it, use the downstairs PC and return to get the creature. Castform changes shape according to weather conditions, which is key in the grassy regions near the Institute. Once you're done, rest again, then leave the Institute building and head across the bridge which Aqua/Magma members were blocking. Once you get across the bridge, it's time for a rival battle.
As always, the rival battle will depend on which Pokémon you chose to begin the adventure. Here is a list of Pokémon your rival will use, based on what you picked:
Treecko:
Shroomish: Level 29
Wailmer: Level 29
Combusken: Level 31
Torchic:
Mudkip: Level 31
Shroomish: Level 29
Numel: Level 29
Mudkip:
Numel: Level 29
Grovyle: Level 31
Wailmer: Level 29
The fight should be an easy one, as your Pokémon should be leveled up much higher than your rival's at this point. Just keep types in mind, and don't be afraid to use those items. Your reward for winning (aside from moving on), is HM 02 (Fly). To call this move handy is an understatement. Once you get the Feather Badge in Fortree City, you'll be able to use the move out of battle to cruise around the map, provided you've already visited the town you want to travel to.
Route 119
Route 119 Once you finish the rival battle, go down to the water to fish, or up the path towards Fortree City. More Ninja trainers await.
Ninja Boy Yasu
Ninjask: Level 27
Ninja Boy Hideo
Koffing: Level 26
Koffing: Level 26
Once you've beaten the Ninja chumps, explore the little grove of Pomeg Berries, and pick them. Then head to the right, into Fortree City.
This is the location of the sixth badge, the Feather Badge. Before you go all willy-nilly into the Gym, though, take some time to explore the city. It's full of treehouses, and contains the standard buildings.
The Pokémon Mart here contains the following items:
Great Ball: 600
Ultra Ball: 1200
Super Potion: 700
Hyper Potion: 1200
Antidote: 100
Paralyz Heal: 200
Awakening: 250
Revive: 1500
Super Repel: 500
Wood Mail: 50
If you go up the ladder next to the Pokémon Center, you'll run into a little girl inside the treehouse who wants a Pikachu. If you've gotten one from the Safari Zone, you can give it to her. If not, try to catch one later, and then return (remember to catch more than one, so you have one for yourself!).
In the next building to the right, an old woman will check your Pokémon for Hidden Power. She'll ask you to guess which hand she holds a coin in. If you choose correctly all three times, she'll give you TM 10 (Hidden Power). The old woman has a TV in her room, too, so if you haven't caught it already, you'll be able to see the piece Gabby and Ty did about you. In front of the third house is the Gym. When you try to go down the ladder, the path will be blocked. Move back up for now.
One more house over, you'll run into a boy who sends his Wingull away. He's writing a letter to someone in Mossdeep City. Once you meet the girl whom he's writing to, return to him and he'll give you a Mental Herb.
Shop
Continuing straight down, you'll discover a Shop on top of a tree. Where else? Anything you buy here will be sent conveniently back to your PC. The right side sells chairs:
Small Chair: 2000
Pokémon Chair: 2000
Heavy Chair: 2000
Ragged Chair: 2000
Comfort Chair: 2000
Brick Chair: 2000
Camp Chair: 2000
Hard Chair: 2000
The left side sells desks:
Small Desk: 3000
Pokémon Desk: 3000
Heavy Desk: 6000
Ragged Desk: 6000
Comfort Desk: 6000
Brick Desk: 9000
Camp Desk: 9000
Hard Desk: 9000
Buy whatever you need, then exit the shop, and make your way to the right, towards Route 120.
Route 120
Wild Pokémon: Marill, Barboach, Goldeen, Oddish, Surskit, Kecleon, Magikarp
In order to get down to the Pokémon Gym, you'll need to head down Route 120. Here, you'll meet the following trainers:
Parasol Lady Clarissa
Goldeen:Level 29
Wailmer: Level 29
Interviewer Gabby and Ty
Magneton: Level 30
Loudred: Level 30
Gabby and Ty send out their pair simultaneously, so make sure your top two are who you want to battle with. After the fight, there will be another interview, if you say "Yes." Why not? Pick a word to describe the battle, then move down the path.
Bird Keeper Robert
Swablu: Level 30
Once you defeat the Birdman, move across the bridge to the left to find Steven. He'll give you the Devon Scope to help you find an otherwise invisible Kecleon. You'll have to battle the startled beast. If you don't have one, catch this one! Once you have the Devon Scope, head back toward Fortree City. In the tall grass to the south, just outside of town, you'll find a stairway that leads down to a Pok\'bfball. But you can't get down the stairs! Use the Devon Scope to see the Kecleon hiding there, then beat it and grab the ball. It contains a Nest Ball.
Scorched Slab
Once you have it, Surf under the bridge and across this pond to the cave, and enter. It's Scorched Slab. Inside, you'll find TM11 (Sunny Day). Store it away.
Fortree City
Head back to town and heal your Pokémon, then head back to the Gym. The Kecleon that you detect at the base of the stairs (using the Devon Scope) will bolt. Head into the gym.
Pokémon Gym #6
Prize: Feather Badge
Gym Leader: Winona
As you could have guessed with the Feather Badge at stake, this gym is all about Flying Pokémon. Her cronies all employ at least one bird-type Pokémon. Therefore, bring an Electric, Rock or Ice Pokémon to combat her and her protectors. If you have a level 30+ Pokémon with Aurora Beam (like Sealeo), that will help you carve your way easily through the gym. Here is what each trainer is packin':
Birdkeeper Jared
Doduo: Level 30
Picknicker Kylee
Swablu: Level 30
Camper Terrell
Taillow: Level 29
Swellow: Level 29
Birdkeeper Will
Wingull: Level 28
Swellow: Level 28
Pelipper: Level 28
Gym Leader Winona
Swellow: Level 31
Pelipper: Level 30
Skarmory: Level 32
Altaria: Level 33
The real brat of this pack is Skarmory, whose Steel Wing attack can be brutal. Winona will also not hesitate to keep feeding her Pokémon Hyper Potions to prolong the battle. Once you beat Winona, you'll get the Feather Badge, which allows you to command Pokémon up to Level 70, even if received through trade. You'll also be able to Fly the friendly skies and get around the map much faster. Winona will also present you with the TM40 (Aerial Ace). Teach it to a Flying Pokémon for extra aerial power.
