So you’ve put a ring on it. You’ve selected a date and secured a wedding venue. Now comes the tricky part: how to decorate the place. One of the biggest decisions to make when planning your impending nuptials is how to choose a wedding color scheme—the spectrum of hues that might dictate everything from your tablescape decor to your flowers to the groomsmen’s cummerbunds. Both your venue and the season you’re getting hitched in will help your direction (as will your wedding planner, if you’re shelling out for one). You’re especially lucky if you’re getting married during the spring, a season that is as symbolic as it is rife with inspiration for your wedding color spectrum.

“Spring is all about new beginnings—and so is marriage!” says Darcy Miller, a veteran party planner and crafter—and the mastermind behind Meghan Markle’s baby shower favors. “I like a spring palette that feels fresh and joyful, whatever that means to you. It could be pastels, it could be crisp black and white, or it could be vivid pink and green, depending on the decor of the venue.”

Top wedding planner Matthew Robbins favors springtime hues that underscore the season’s penchant for “all things fresh and beautiful.” He recommends a romantic pastel palette: “Soft lilac, pale pink, white, butter yellow, and the palest green tones all work together beautifully,” he tells ELLE DECOR.

We’ve tapped Miller, Robbins, and others to share even more inspo for landing on your perfect spring wedding colors. Whether you’re looking for that classic “something blue” or something tradition bucking, these ideas will help you say “I do” to a gorgeous big day.

This year’s color forecasts have been hyping vivid purple and berry hues. Rather than going full-blown Viva Magenta on your spring wedding decor scheme (though you do you on your big day!), try a softer variation of the theme with a monochromatic tablescape, like entertaining expert Rebecca Gardner did here. Pop in some greenery and complementary glassware and you have a chic (and trend-proof) tableau.

White, Blue, and Green

“Spring is all about delicate textures and shapes,” Robbins, of Matthew Robbins Designs, tells us. He favors a seasonal palette replete with classic whites, verdant greens, and delicate blues. “Rather than mixing blue and green with white flowers, try adding in these tones with the accessories on the tables, such as a water glass or beautiful napkin, linen, or menu detail.”

Brick and Green

“There are so many ways to find inspiration for your wedding colors,” says Fallon Carter, a top-rated wedding planner by Vogue, Brides, and more. “I always say look around you.” In the case of this indoor wedding at the Bowery Hotel in New York City, Carter subtly incorporated hues found in the brick walls into the tablescape she designed. But she cautions against being too matchy-matchy. If your setting is fairly monochrome, bring in complementary hues to enhance rather than replicate. Here, that meant greenery to contrast the red bricks.

Jewel Tones

If pastels aren’t your thing, consider their jewel-toned cousins. According to celebrated New York planner Bronson van Wyck, this palette is “bolder” and “more resilient.” He continues: “Bringing in rich emeralds with the vibrancy of fuchsia and oranges lends itself to a thoughtful yet playful color story throughout the event narrative. From table linens to flowers and seasonal fruit, adding bright and bold colors heralds a fresh take on nuptials.”

You can still go bold with pastels, however. Just ask Gardner, who looked to the frozen aisle for her latest tableware with her company Houses & Parties: “We’re using vibrant grocery store rainbow-sherbet pink, mint, and creamsicle for our new collection of cotton table linens. They anchor an explosion of all the floral abundance, especially variegated parrot tulip with surprising combinations of color.”

The “something blue” in the case of this wedding in Provence, France, designed by Matthew Robbins turned out to be the shutters of this gorgeous country house. Crisp whites provide contrast, while the sprays of greenery and pale blue glassware bring in the verdant, alfresco atmosphere. Parfait!

Just because you’re jumping the broom in the spring doesn’t mean you need to forgo sexy lighting and moody hues. At the same wedding at the Bowery Hotel, Carter accentuated delicate, lacy flowers in red, peach, white, and green (to complement the hues of the surrounding brick walls) with romantic candlelight emanating from glass hurricanes. The whole scheme practically glows—just like you will on your big day.

Pastry Shop Pastels

“To me, what makes a palette most meaningful is if it’s personal,” says planner Darcy Miller. Like Gardner, she also followed her sweet tooth for her own nuptials. “Our soft color palette was inspired by Ladurée boxes,” she tells us. “My husband, Andy, and I had gone to Paris when we were dating, and we visited that bakery, so for our wedding, we did a dessert buffet all inspired by Laduree’s pastries, and that inspired our cake and color palette too. Those colors were meaningful to us because they remind us of that trip when we were falling in love.”

Soft Lilac, Pink, and Green

Flowers and bridesmaids’ dresses aren’t the only opportunities to bring in colors. Instead of plain white napkins, for instance, Robbins opted for a lilac option here, which accentuates the blooms on the table. Creams and pale timber tones in the structure’s latticework were picked up in the classic medallion chairs as well as the soft light of the chandeliers. The finishing touch? “Hanging vines and blooms always add to the romance that spring conjures up,” the planner tells us.

While this elegant color scheme slants green, G. Blake Sams, founder of Gregory Blake Sams Events, amped things up with confetti-bright touches of yellow, pink, and blue in each floral arrangement. The bright white tablecloths and weathered chairs, meanwhile, complement the stately home’s white trim and coffee-colored walls. The rattan plinth adds just the right amount of laid-back elegance.

“We are all thinking about flowers in spring, so bring in the garden by adding larger blooms and vines to your space,” says Robbins, who favors airy pastels. “Large urns of delphinium and lilac are perfect for framing a ceremony or entrance,” he adds. But don’t just think about color when it comes to your blooms, cautions Robbins: “Allow the floral arrangements to have lots of movement to bring in the energy of spring.”
