Maserati MC12 Versione Corsa (2007) will be up for auction at RM Sotheby’s in Paris on 31 JANUARY 2024, with an estimated final price of €2,800,000 – €3,500,000 EUR.
The Maserati MC12 Versione Corsa, born out of Maserati’s triumphant return to motorsport in the 21st century, marked a significant chapter in the company’s storied history. Unveiled at the 74th Geneva International Motor Show in 2004, the MC12 was a radical departure from the norm, drawing inspiration from the Ferrari Enzo but undergoing substantial enhancements to its engine, chassis, and aerodynamics.
Powered by a formidable 630-horsepower 5,998 cc V-12 engine, the MC12 boasted a top speed of 330 km/h. The carbonfibre body, designed by Maserati Centro Stile, prioritized function over beauty, bearing the unmistakable traits of a long-distance racer. The production of 50 road-going MC12s between 2004 and 2005 was strategically aimed at homologation for the FIA GT Championship.
Under the guidance of Giorgio Ascanelli, Maserati’s Reparto Corse developed a competition version that achieved remarkable success, including consecutive wins in the challenging Spa 24 Hours. Constructors’, drivers’, and team championships solidified the MC12’s reputation as a dominant force in racing. This success prompted the creation of the MC12 Versione Corse, a track-focused car designed without the intention of competitive racing, free from FIA regulations.
Released in late 2006, the MC12 Versione Corse surpassed its championship-winning counterpart in power, boasting an impressive 745 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. Weighing nearly 200 kilograms less than its road-legal sibling, the Corsa prioritized a pure and exhilarating driving experience. Unlike the road-going version, it lacked traction control, stability control, and ABS, yet its performance was electrifying, reaching 200 km/h from a standstill in just 6.4 seconds.
Limited to a select group of twelve customers, each MC12 Versione Corse carried a hefty price tag of €1,000,000. One such fortunate buyer in Germany, who acquired ‘0008’ in 2007, added the Corsa to an impressive collection that already included a Ferrari FXX. Despite its rarity and exclusivity, the car saw limited use under its owner’s custodianship.
Archivio Storico Maserati has confirmed the car’s authenticity, retaining its matching-numbers engine and retaining its original Arancio (orange) livery with black Sparco seats. The car comes complete with handbooks, fuel rig, spare wheels, and tires, presenting an irresistible opportunity for serious Maserati collectors. The MC12 Versione Corsa stands not only as a testament to Maserati’s racing prowess but also as a pinnacle of performance and exclusivity in the automotive world.
