Hello and welcome to the G-Views, where creativity is respected and Dokuro-chan is rejected. The following show contains a pervy alligator, a Montana Max wannabe, a pedophile father, a brave knight in maid armor and Hades. This is He Is My Master.

For this particular review I’m going to review the story using MY own interpretation. Some who saw the show may disagree with my opinions and they’re welcome to do so but make sure it’s constructive criticism, no spammers or trolling.

Plot Summary: Yoshitaka Nakabayashi, a 14-year-old millionaire who got this huge inheritance after his parents died in an accident, found himself needed to be taken care of and tried to hire live-in maids to do the job. Two runaway girls, Izumi Sawatari and her younger sister Mitsuki, stumped into Nakabayashi’s mansion and got hired by Yoshitaka immediately, for Yoshitaka is not only a rich boy but also a pervert with uniform fetishes, who wants to be addressed as goshujin-sama (master). Having nowhere else to settle down along with Mitsuki’s pet alligator Pochi, Izumi accepted the job reluctantly.

There’s really not much to say about this show’s plot. The gist of it involves Izumi and Mitsuki, and later Anna, serving Yoshitaka in order to pay off the seemingly endless debt they have. Why is it endless? That’s because each episode contains destruction of his property and possessions and physical harm to his body which is added to the medical bill. At the end of each episode we see Yoshitaka in his workshop preparing more pervy schemes while the day’s damage is added to the total debt, which the show humorously refers to as Izumi’s debt rather than both sisters’, more on this shortly.

Oh, there’s one particular running gag that I’d like to talk about as well. You see, this is one of the few shows I’ve seen where the manga writers actually play a part on the show, or in this case, their avatars do. You see, the gag is that Izumi occasionally communicates with the heavens in order to make a request to Our most Almighty GOD or give thanks whenthings are looking up for her. Unfortunately the “gods” in this show are the writers themselves, Mattsu and his ex-, Asu Tsubaki, in the form of their trademark avatars. The viewers can pretty much guess what kinds of “gods” they are.

One last thing worth noting is that this show has many references to some of Gainax’s other works such as some of Yoshitaka’s fish being named after characters from Neon Genesis Evangelion and action figures from other anime shows. See how many of them you ca before the fansubbers give the clues away.

Animation: This is the show’s weak point. I don’t mind the drawing style but it clearly shows that it isn’t high quality at all. The fanservice is there so take it for what it is. Izumi’s the main focus due to her gifted body. To this day I only know one girl in real life who also had big breasts at an early age.

The music is pretty cool, especially the music that usually plays whenever Yoshitaka’s up to no good. The OP and ED are awesome.

Characters:

Anna: The bumbling main heroine of the story. Anna’s the knight who’s on a noble quest, but sadly succumbs to her sexual desires thus making her lose track of her mission. Still, she IS the most entertaining character on the show. She will do whatever it takes to both protect and claim her target, even if it means getting clobbered by said target from time to time

Izumi: The victim on the show. I won’t spoil why exactly but the main reason behind her suffering and constant torture working as a maid and surviving the clutches of evil on a daily basis is because of Hades. You’ll understand when the truth is revealed, which made me face palm myself and curse Hades.

Hades: The main antagonist of the show (shocking isn’t it?). Hades will stop at nothing to abuse its power over everyone. Hades usually spends its time toying with Izumi tricking her, Yoshitaka and Anna into playing various ridiculous competitions as it watches everyone unknowingly do its bidding, with Izumi as the prize every single time. That’s Hades’ problem, it doesn’t try to do anything new at all. Hades could have been an entertaining villain but instead became an annoying stereotype. I personally want to take Hades to the back room, pick up my trusty machete, slice its stomach open, continue slicing its body in two, rip its intestines, suck out all the blood, cook the intestines and eat them for lunch while I pierce the heart with needles and then feed it to my pet Polar Bear (If I had one). One last thing, Disney’s Hades is awesome, this show’s Hades on the other hand…no.

Yoshitaka: aka Montana Max wannabe who’s also a cliché pervert. He’s a hit and miss type character. There are times when his suffering amuses me but other times it’s just not there.

Pochi: Some chubby, perverted, feminist alligator that chases after Izumi every chance he gets. He gets to know people by tasting them first. He hates male meat so he often butts heads with Yoshitaka. He’s also Hades’ pet. (Yes, that is an alligator)

Izumi and Mizuki’s parents: Two bastards, especially the mother.

Yoshitaka’s parents: Mother; normal, Father; Yoshitaka’s influence.

Hades’ mother: Possibly the influence behind Hades’ behavior as well.

Secret characters: I won’t spoil who this is but one of them is mentioned when Izumi’s parents make their official debut.

Fav male supporting character: Hades’ captain of the guards.

Although this show’s enjoyable, it does get repetitive in terms of content. You’ll often see the same circle of events in the majority of the show: Izumi beats up Yoshitaka for being a perv, Yoshitaka works Izumi’s butt off the hardest of the 3 maids while executing a scheme he came up with the previous night, as soon as an episode reaches its climax, it’s time for one of Hades’ stupid contests, Anna succumbs to her lust whilst forgetting her primary mission, which gets her in trouble with her target, some mushy stuff happens which usually ends with Izumi destroying Yoshitaka again etc. Really the story flow is the show’s weakest point: It starts off pretty good but becomes repetitive over time. Personally if it weren’t for the main character (Anna), this show would be a waste of time for the most part.

Of course like most shows in this genre the last quarter is where things become serious. Even Hades takes a short, albeit discreet break from its usual evil deeds. The heroine is sadly temporarily pushed aside: Ah, a heroine’s work is rarely met with victory. As you can tell by the time the show reaches this part, I couldn’t care less because of how cliche the show’s promoted main pairing is.

In Conclusion, This show wasn’t a total waste, thanks primarily due in part to Anna but I don’t regret watching it because it had some hilarious moments in between the repetitive ones. I personally thought it would be better than its spin-off, They Are My Noble Masters but it was pretty much the same, except more focused on humor than character development. Give it a go when you have the time.
