The Devil Wears Prada Turns 10 Today! All of Andy Sachs' Outfits, Ranked
The Devil Wears Prada has provided so many important style lessons to the world. Florals for spring are, in fact, not groundbreaking. The right way to pronounce Dolce & Gabbana is “ Gabb-an-a.” Not all cerulean blue belts are created equal. But really, the best thing the film gave us was the dream of one day having a Runway-assisted closet makeover as glorious as the one bestowed on Andy Sachs. (Or the real-world best thing: A day spent shopping with the film’s costume designer, Patricia Field.)
Andy’s transformation from the “lumpy sweater”-sporting assistant to the posh and polished “fashion girl” was so well documented through her endlessly chic outfits that it showed exactly how clothes could serve as an outlet of self-expression — and proved that loving fashion and being smart aren’t mutually exclusive. So in honor of the film’s 10th anniversary, we’re going to forget how old that number makes us feel and focus on the “would still wear” fashion instead, by ranking her outfits from best to worst.
1. Her makeover debut outfit was jaw-dropping for many reasons, but mostly thanks to those (sigh) thigh-high Chanel boots.
2. She only had a few hours to memorize the guest list before Miranda’s big benefit and pull off a stunning red carpet moment. Mission accomplished.
3. When an outfit makes us wish for a newsboy cap comeback, you know it’s a good look.
4. You know how much you love this vintage, leopard-trimmed green coat? Anne Hathaway loves it even more — she bought it before the film’s clothes went to auction.
5. When your dress is this chic, a cell phone is only going to distract from the outfit. Might as well toss it in the fountain.
6. A girl can never have too many Chanel chain necklaces.
7. Or newsboy caps, apparently.
8. Looking at this bag makes us almost almost forget what she carried into her initial interview with Miranda Priestly.
9. An easy, breezy dress makes her look cool and collected, even if she’s anything but.

10. You can take the girl away from the couture, but you can’t take the great haircut away from the girl.
11. Andy and Emily’s belts serve very different purposes: Andy’s to accent her outfit, Emily’s to highlight the success of her one-cube-of-cheese diet.

12. Only a true fashion girl can pull off a bedazzled pom-pom beanie with panache.
13. The “dropping off the book” granny-chic plaid and fur ensemble may not be her best look…
14. … But it still beats her interview outfit and onion bagel.
