As promised, Bungie is unveiling new game types as the Halo: Reach beta test progresses.

A new mode called Invasion – built around team-based, objective-oriented gameplay – pits the Spartans against the Covenant in a battle over three strategic points.

Combat goes down in three phases as invading space marines try to power down generators, capture Covenant territory and steal a data core. If you've ever played Rush games in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, you have an inkling how these kind of battles go down. Teamwork is key.

There's also a death match variety: In Slayer Invasion matches, new weapon drops (and, potentially, vehicles) are added as kill thresholds are met and phases change. As ever, you're gunning for kills here. The first team to make 100 corpses wins.

The Halo: Reach beta is free to anyone who owns a copy of Halo 3: ODST or is able to nab a promotional code. Halo: Reach is due out this fall for Xbox 360.
