“Normally, we just want to celebrate it with our friends and have a nice dance party,” said a grinning Laura Mulleavy on the rooftop of the Jane yesterday evening. Mulleavy, along with her sister, Kate, and their pals Miranda July, Humberto Leon, Lisa Airan, and more, had come together to dance the night away in celebration of Rodarte’s Spring 2017 collection.
“Our friend Zach deejays, and he knows all the songs that he probably wouldn’t play for anyone else, but he’ll play them for us because we want to hear them,” added Laura. “Our friends are here from L.A., so it’s like the perfect way to end.”
The music was upbeat as ever, and the small crowd sipped Ruffino sparkling rosé and lounged on the patio. Quite a few guests showed up in overalls and Rodarte tees.
“Well, we used to wear Hawaiian shirts all the time. Zach said, ‘Maybe it’s good to wear overalls?’” mused Laura. “So we sent out an e-mail to our friends and everyone brought overalls. Then I brought a pair with me, and I put them on and was like, “I can’t dance in them, but I’ll wear a Cheers shirt instead!’ It’s the same thing.”
