When is the Festival Marionnettes Plein la Rue?

From August 25 to 27, 2023, Promenade Wellington — where you can find some of the city’s best restaurants, cafés, cocktail bars, pizza joints and sandwicheries — will come alive for the 12th edition of the Festival Marionnettes Plein la rue.

We’re talking larger-than-life puppets, glove puppets, rod puppets, string puppets and more that promise laughter for both the young and the young at heart.

The festival will host companies Nama & Création Vivante and their roving show Amitié. The co-production between Quebec and Mali will have you dancing in the streets to the rhythm of percussion.

Straight from Mexico, the animal puppets of Luna-Morena’s company Animalarium will captivate festival-goers throughout the weekend.

The Neighborhood Tour will invite attendees to witness three short puppet variations for teenagers and adults (13 years and older) in the backyards of neighbourhood residents.

Experience something magical with Esmée et L’amour by Jacqueline Van de Geer, Psycho-carotte by Isabelle Bartkowiak (winner of the Ouf-FMPR Award), and Lucien by Aluma (maximum 15 spectators per performance, so make sure to secure your free tickets 1 hour before each show at the information booth).

With the aim to expose young audiences to the joy of stop-motion, the Festival, in partnership with Stop Motion Montreal, will present a projection titled La Marionnette Fait son Cinéma on Friday, August 25, at 8 p.m.

Don’t miss Wellington’s epic sidewalk sale, where local merchants will set up on the street. Expect great savings and a curated selection of items.
