BRING HENRY

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry ‘wanted by Bordeaux as new manager if Vladimir Petkovic is sacked’ amid Ligue 1 struggle

THIERRY HENRY is Bordeaux's No1 target if the Ligue 1 strugglers sack boss Vladimir Petkovic, according to reports in France.

Arsenal legend Henry, currently Belgium's assistant coach, is reportedly in 'regular contact' with The French club's president, Gerard Lopez.

And RMC Sport claim the French World Cup winner heads a list of several options as ex-Switzerland chief Petkovic is tipped to depart.

Second-bottom Bordeaux's squad strength and fighting spirit looked feeble as they lost 6-0 at Rennes on Sunday after having Issouf Sissokho sent off.

Covid has robbed them of key men, while ex-Gunners defender Laurent Koscielny could depart this month.

Koscielny is one of six early-season regulars not currently training with the first-team.

And Lopez's bright new dawn has quickly faded, although the new Matmut Atlantique stadium is one of France's finest football venues.

RMC Sport suggest Sunday afternoon's home league game with Strasbourg is make or break for former Lazio manager Petkovic.

Henry would be the obvious candidate - but this being a World Cup year complicates the matter.

Belgium have already shown their determination not to upset their preparations by rejecting Everton's approach for Roberto Martinez following Rafa Benitez's sacking.

The Toffees were interested in bringing back Belgium chief Martinez - with him working for club AND country until after the World Cup.

Now Everton are expected to look elsewhere for Benitez's successor, increasing the chances of a romantic return for Goodison Park icon Wayne Rooney.
