Movie director Wes Craven, who helped define horror movies with the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series, has died.
Craven's career got started in 1972 with "The Last House on the Left" but achieved his greatest stardom with 1984's "Nightmare on Elm Street" with the knife-fingered antagonist Freddy Krueger.
The movie turned out to be a blockbuster that spawned a series of sequels - none of which he directed.
