Do you know which pastries are France's favorites this year? Paris-Brest, flan, tart, chocolate cake, millefeuille? An OpinionWay survey for the Salon de la Pâtisserie reveals which pastries are the unanimous favorites in France. Discover the podium!

So yes, in France, we love pastries: homemade pastries above all, well-made pastries with good, simple products, and pastries by renowned chefs. But do you know which pastries are the most popular this year? Thanks to an OpinionWay survey , carried out in the run-up to the Salon de la Pâtisserie, we discover the top rankings of France's favorite pastry shops .

Podium 2023 of France's favorite pastries:

  • No. 1 ex-aequo: Fruit tarts (lemon, strawberry, apple...) and strawberry pastries for 40% of those polled.

  • N° 2: Eclairs or religieuses for 36% of them.

Among the under-35s, it's another sweet that stands out: cookies take first place at over 40%!

Despite the difficult economic climate, over 90% of French people continue to buy pastries. They find pleasure in them, and see them as a form of escape, as Zakari Benkhadra, organizer of the Salon de la Pâtisserie, explains.

Patisserie is also seen as a leisure activity and a time for sharing. The French consider it to be :

  • A source of well-being: 84% of those surveyed feel that pastry gives them a sense of well-being.
  • Creative leisure: 8 out of 10 consider it a real hobby.
  • A time for sharing: 90% of those surveyed felt that it enabled them to share pleasant moments with their family.

Purchasing criteria reflect an evolution towards more responsible patisserie:

  • 80% of those surveyed prefer seasonal produce and fruit, as well as French products.
  • 66% want lighter pastries, and 65% want them to be low in sugar.
