Fascination As Chicken Lays An Egg Within An Egg, and Someone Eats It

One woman's bizarre discovery during a meal has wowed the internet this week after an egg captured viral attention.

Vineta B. shared a picture of her boiled egg on Reddit's r/mildlyintersting forum on Monday, where it has been viewed more than two million times and received over 23,000 upvotes.

The picture captured the attention of the internet thanks to an unusual addition to her boiled egg—it seemed to contain another egg inside.

With the caption: "I think my boiled egg has an egg in it," Vineta offered the mildly interesting find to other Reddit users who were left confused.

Website Pet Keen reports that there are many ways that hen eggs can be seen as abnormal and a variety of reasons that differences in eggs may occur.

When an egg is found within another egg, they report that this is often caused by stress on the laying bird. Both eggs may have a shell, or one may be missing its shell. However, they say that her egg production should return to normal giving a hen time.

As a hen owner, Pet Keen reiterates that it is always important to look out for egg quality as an indicator of the bird's health.

It says: "You should know your hen's eggs better than anybody, and while you can expect some typical coloring and shape, you must look for differences in the size, quality, and appearance of eggs. A sudden change can be indicative of a health problem or the onset of stress."

Vineta told Newsweek: "I always get these eggs—free range eggs—they have the best, nicest-looking yolk. I love eggs."

Part of a salad with an egg on the side, Vineta says her best friend made the meal: "He brought out a plate and we were sitting in the garden and I asked 'What's that?' and he said, 'Yeah I saw that thats interesting'. I didn't think twice. I ate it. An eggs an egg," she laughed.

Viewers of the unusual picture headed to the comments to share their thoughts—with puns aplenty.

"It's not just an additional egg, it's an eggstra," said one comment. While another Redditor wrote: "That's eggceptional."

Meanwhile, other replies were shocked at the discovery and made clear that they would not be pleased to find it on their plate.

"Would not eat," said one commenter, while another wrote: "I absolutely would chuck that away."

"I definitely wouldn't wanna eat that," said one reply: "And I kinda don't want to eat eggs now."

"It tasted exactly the same as the white of an egg," said Vineta: "It looks like it's got a little shell around it but I don't even think it's fully formed. I didn't die."

"Why wouldn't I eat it? It wasn't moldy. It's clearly part of the egg," she said.
