Tom Holland's new AppleTV+ series The Crowded Room has been getting some pretty unfavorable reviews from critics—but the latest episode has got the internet well and truly rapt.

In a drastic departure from the character of Peter Parker for which he is best known, the Spider-Man actor plays a man accused of a heinous crime in the psychological mystery drama, which is based on a harrowing true crime story. Working on the project was actually so emotionally draining for Holland that it led him to make the decision to take some time away from acting, saying that he had a "tough time" going to such dark places.

In the most recent installment of the show, one aspect of Holland's performance in particular has garnered attention: a scene in which his character Danny Sullivan, adorned in black eyeliner, has a tryst with another man in a bathroom stall in a nightclub.

The scene, which culminates in Danny being the passive partner in anal sex, has gone viral on Twitter. Some viewers expressed their shock at seeing their sweet little Spidey getting his back blown out, while others praised Holland's acting range and willingness to play such a different role.

Most prevalent, however, have been the many jokes and memes which speculate that Holland was "taking back shots" in the episode as a form of revenge against his girlfriend, fellow actor Zendaya, who appears to have a threesome in the trailer for the upcoming Luca Guadagnino movie Challengers. Zendaya has, of course, long since shed her Disney Channel image thanks to her role in Euphoria — it looks like Holland is now playing catchup.
