Willie Nelson is coming to Lubbock's Cook's Garage in April. Tickets go on sale Friday.

Nelson and family will take the stage at Cook's on April 17, 2024. The 90-year-old country legend most recently performed in Lubbock in 2017.

Cook's announced the show early this week, instantly generating buzz online, which appeared to cause the venue's website to briefly crash.

Ticket sales begin Friday at 10 a.m. and prices range from $65 plus fees for general admission to $200 plus fees for table seats. The link to purchase tickets can be found at cooksgarage.us.

Willie Nelson performs on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the City Bank Auditorium in Lubbock.

Nelson, who has recorded more than 150 albums over a seven-decade career, has performed in the Hub City many times since the early 1970s, including relatively recent shows in 2017 and 2012 at the late City Bank Auditorium, according to Avalanche-Journal archives. Nelson also notably appeared alongside Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp at Jones AT&T Stadium in 2009.

In 1987, the Texas native Nelson headlined the stadium for a show designed as a benefit to raise money for Texas Tech football scholarships, with the Maines Brothers Band opening. According to an anecdote shared in an A-J file story, Nelson was booed by the Lubbock crowd when he wore a Texas Longhorns football jersey on stage at the Jones. He subsequently took the jersey off.

For the 2024 appearance, songwriters Larry Fleet and Ty Myers will open for Nelson and family, according to the Cook's Garage website.

The show begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2024 on Cook's outdoor stage — rain or shine — with gates opening at 5:30 p.m.
