New York Fashion Week: Men’s kicked off with a glitzy party, hosted by the Council of Fashion Designers (CFDA) and Cadillac, on Monday night at the auto company’s recently opened global HQ Cadillac House, which will also serve as a space for designers to set up shop at the Retail Lab (currently featuring Timo Weiland’s creations).
The soiree also introduced this year’s NYFWM ambassadors: model Eric Rutherford, singer Travis Mills, NBA players Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony, snowboarder Shaun White and actors Jerry O’Connell and Kellan Lutz.
“When they asked me to become an ambassador, it felt really authentic to who I am. I love fashion,” says Lutz, who launched a Venice Beach-inspired clothing line in 2011 called Abbot + Main. (The brand’s website, however, is currently defunct and their last Instagram was posted on July 22, 2015).
“I feel like I’ve been out of the game for a couple years — I want to see all the new up-and-comers and my favorite brands like John Varvatos,” adds Lutz of being at Fashion Week. “I just really want to dive back into it.”

The Twilight actor, who was outfitted in a pale blue Brooks Brothers suit, says he first became interested in fashion when he started modeling at age 14.
“I just got a good sense of design, style, material and different brands because I’d wear it,” Lutz tells Pret-a-Reporter, adding that he’d also style his brothers and teach them how to dress.
The 31-year-old actor sees his work in film and fashion as symbiotic. “It’s definitely another out source of energy. As I travel the world for different acting jobs or press, I get to see new styles and incorporate that into my own fashion repertoire,” says Lutz, whose next film credits include Adi Shankar’s Gods and Secrets (with Denise Richards and RJ Mitte) and Nest (with Li Bingbing).
And when it comes to figuring out his red-carpet wardrobe, Lutz says it’s all about what’s on his feet: “I always love a good cologne, but I’d have to say socks because when you have funky socks on, people might see it or they might not.”
