The Los Angeles Lakers may be having a crappy season, but things couldn’t be better for the owners of the Staples Center.
Revenue from premium seating inside the downtown arena has surpassed $100 million this season, the most in the building’s 15-year history, AEG said Monday.
The figure includes money brought in from ticket sales, food and beverage, etc., from Lakers, Kings and Clippers games as well as from concerts and other events held (or to be held) from Sept. 1, 2014, through Aug. 31, 2015.
AEG, which also operates the arena, said that for the sixth straight year, all 150 of the private suites at Staples have been sold (at about $400,000 a pop), and every one of the 2,377 Premier Seats in the lower bowl has been contracted.
Also, $4 million in new premium revenue has been realized with the sellout of seven Premier Tables and 18 Premier Lounges, the company said. Carved out of building’s existing San Manuel Club dining area at a cost of $1.4 million in summer 2013, these spaces accommodate four guests apiece in “spacious” and “stylish” atmospheres.
Across the street from Staples, all 12 private boxes inside the Nokia Theatre concert venue in L.A. Live were sold for 2014, AEG added.
“Achieving this sales record is a testament to our tenant teams and the products they put out on the court and ice, the amazing artists that book and play our venue and to all of our part-time and full-time staff who make sure night in and night out that our guests and fans are provided with first-class service,” Lee Zeidman, president of Staples Center, Nokia Theatre and L.A. Live, said in a statement.
While the Lakers have been struggling without their injured star Kobe Bryant, the Kings are coming off their second Stanley Cup championship in three seasons and the Clippers are playing well.
On Saturday night, Staples played host to a night of UFC fighting featuring Ronda Rousey (she won her title bout in 14 seconds) that attracted 17,654 fans for a live gate of nearly $2.7 million, UFC president Dana White announced.
