Count Carl Von Cosel was brought before the courts in 1931 after the mummifed remains of Elena Hoyos were discovered in his Key West home. Some call it a story of true love, others, the workings of a mad man.
In this chilling memoir, Von Cosel reveals the spirits of ancestors who guided him, conversations with Elena's ghost, detailed accounts of his attempts to reconstruct and revive her and the truth about their post-mortem wedding.
This is the diary of Count Carl Von Cosel. His words, his thoughts and his secrets. His tale of love that extended beyond the grave.
What a fascinating book . Combining key west, Florida which is one of my favorite destinations and a psychological thriller AND that it’s a true story written by the main character are all the reasons why reading this book was a must for me. If you are easily squeamish then there will be some parts that make you go 🤢 but I love this book. My final conclusion is that I feel he definately had some major psych issues and was creepily obsessed with this girl but she didn’t sound as innocent and perfect either . She seemed like she kept him round for his jewelry and money and just told him what he wanted to hear to keep those gifts coming . And when she was feeling well she didn’t give him the time of day and perhaps thought he was a stalker .. I felt like she strung him along according to his point of view of the situation . It would have been interesting if they ever came across a diary from HER point of view from when she was alive … I give this book 4 stars . Worth the read ., and I can’t believe how incredibly smart this man was . But then again coming from a psychiatric nurse I can honestly say a lot of my patients are very intelligent . Their brains are hard wired a different way .

What an interesting read. The Count may be looney, but I was rooting for him although out this book. All I can say is that this is a love story, a bit of a horrid love story but "undying" love.
