Signal Studios has announced that it's partnered with indie publisher Accelerate Games to bring back the classic Xbox Live Arcade title Toy Soldiers in 2021.

The much-loved action-strategy game made its debut way back in 2010. For those who missed it the first time around, Toy Soldiers pits two armies of miniature wooden soldiers against each other and has players battle it out for victory across a series of imaginative levels and dioramas.

Duking it out World War I style over kid's bedrooms, lounges, libraries, and gardens gave the game a real homespun vibe that was pretty damn charming, and it went on to become one of the most popular games on the Xbox Live Arcade platform.

In an unexpected turn of events, it's been officially confirmed that Toy Soldiers will return on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2021. The overhauled revival will feature new content, new gameplay options and new difficulty settings. You can also expect improved HD graphics that overhaul the original textures completely.

If that's not enough for you, the controls and camera will also be improved, while previous DLC packs will now be included in the campaign. That's quite a package, no?

Accelerate Games was just recently founded by former Acclaim Entertainment CEO and Co-Founder Greg Fischbach. Toy Soldiers HD will be the publisher's first game, which is pretty exciting.

"What we love about Toy Soldiers is it combines historical accuracies, hardcore action and strategy, and humor with infectious fun gameplay," said Fischbach in a press release. "The game's off-the-charts replayability and multiplayer features are sure to recapture the attention of previous enlisted fans and recruit an army of new ones.

"I co-founded Accelerate Games because I want to build a team of long time video game veterans with a common goal of establishing long term, collaborative relationships with talented creatives who are determined to cultivate brands and build lasting IPs. We look forward to helping the small, but talented team at Signal Studios reach their goal of introducing Toy Soldiers to new audiences worldwide across console and PC platforms."

I can honestly say I didn't have the return of Toy Soldiers on my 2020 bingo card... but this is still undeniably some very welcome news indeed. We'll share more about the upcoming remake as we get it.
