Kate Middleton and Prince William have faced a lot of adversity in the past year. From mourning Queen Elizabeth II’s death to dealing with the ongoing tension in their relationship with Prince Harry, the Prince and Princess of Wales have come out on the other end even stronger. A source told Us Weekly on September 20, 2023, that Kate and William have been one another’s main support system over the past 12 months, which has enhanced their marriage and their family unit. “William and Kate are more in sync than ever,” the insider shared with the outlet. “They cherish what they have with each other. For them, family comes first, and it always will.”

Ever since Elizabeth passed in September 2022, Kate and William have been in a grieving period. “Her death hit them extremely hard,” the insider said. “In many ways, it’s only now really sinking in that she’s gone.” To cope with the loss of William’s grandmother, the couple has been turning to one another. “They’re in awe of each other,” the insider shared. “William tells anyone who will listen that he couldn’t do it without Kate, and she echoes that right back.”

Another obstacle has been the comments that William’s brother, Harry, has made. In December 2022, Harry and Meghan Markle released their Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, where the Duke of Sussex alleged that his brother sold him out to the press. Then, in his tell-all memoir, Spare, which was published in January 2023, Harry claimed that William physically attacked him during an argument over Meghan in 2019. “William is furious over all the things Harry’s said about him,” the source said. Although the insider indicates that the brothers haven’t talked to one another in a while, it has only made Kate and William’s relationship with one another and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, stronger. “The only silver lining of this situation is that it’s motivated William to keep his family unit very firmly intact,” the insider noted.

Throughout all of the obstacles in their lives, William and Kate have never compromised their roles as working royals. In fact, they took on new titles. In 2022, the duo became the Prince and Princess of Wales. More recently, they received new military titles. On September 18, 2023, Kate was appointed to the Commodore-in-Chief, Fleet Air Arm, while William was named Colonel-in-Chief, The Mercian Regiment. The source said that these new roles have reenergized them. “They want to keep working with Charles and Camilla and other members of the firm to help lead the royal family into a more modern direction,” the insider revealed. The source also noted that Kate and William are currently working “to serve and help the people in any way they can,” but ultimately, their relationship and their family comes first.

The source also opened up about Kate and William’s intimacy. According to the insider, William isn’t a fan of PDA. “William used to be quite awkward about showing too much affection, but Kate’s helped him relax,” the source stated. Royal etiquette expert Myke Meier told People that members of the royal family tend to abstain from romantic gestures in public settings, which may explain why William has been hesitant to express his love outside of their private quarters. “The royals often adjust PDA to mirror the formality of the event they are attending,” she explained.
