Kevin Zegers Is Adjusting to Newlywed Life

It’s been a whirlwind summer for Kevin Zegers, who tied the knot last weekend between press commitments for his upcoming film, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Perhaps that’s why he hasn’t gotten used to married life quite yet.

“I read in an email that [my wife] called me her husband yesterday, and I was wondering who she was talking about,” Zegers joked to PEOPLE during a Friday junket for his movie, which opens Aug. 21.

That’s not to say his new title comes as any sort of surprise to the actor, 28, who has been in a relationship with his now-wife Jaime Feld for almost seven years.

“We’ve been together a long time, so it wasn’t an un-thought-out decision,” says Zegers. “We’ve been engaged for a year so we were both ready. We just had a party and we were glad that people were there to celebrate with us.”

Among the wedding guests were two of Zegers’s Mortal Instruments costars, Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower.

“Lily and my wife are very close since we finished, and Jamie and I hit it off from the time we met,” he explains. “They’re like my family.”

As for honeymoon plans, those will have to wait until the end of Zegers’s intense press tour schedule.

“We’re actually doing the European tour and then we go to Mexico City. Then my wife and I are going to go on our honeymoon before we start shooting the second movie,” he says.

By that time, Zegers will be ready to relax on the beach. He adds, “We’re going to Turks and Caicos!”
