The Watergate Hotel is Back, And Taking Reservations

Nine years after it shut down, the Watergate will have a grand re-opening this May.

It was the center of perhaps the greatest political scandal in U.S. history -- and now, you can spend the night there once again.

The Watergate Hotel is now accepting reservations for its grand re-opening this May, nine years after it closed down to guests, the hotel announced in a statement.

The Watergate was the site of the famous 1972 break-in at the Democratic National Committee's headquarters, which ultimately led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon after high-level officials within his administration were revealed to be the masterminds.

The building has changed hands many times in the decades since then. The hotel closed down in August 2007 for a planned $170 million, 18-month renovation, but the renovation never happened and the building went unused. It changed hands numerous times again, until finally Euro Capitol Properties bought the hotel in May 2010 and announced an $85 million renovation in January 2013 -- a renovation that will finally open the hotel again.

"Be among the first guests to revel in luxury at the grand re-opening of The Watergate Hotel," the hotel's statement reads. "Dream in couture.
