Carlos Spegazzini

Carlos Luis Spegazzini y Turina

Profesor.

Nació en Bairo, Piamonte (Italia) 20/IV/1858 y falleció en La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina) el 1/VII/1926.

Destacado micólogo, que en La Plata (Argentina) se inició en el estudio de los hongos, de la mano de uno de los más grandes micólogos de la época Pedro Andrea Saccardo. Estudió en la Real Escuela de Vitivinicultura y Enología, de Conegliano.

Fue en Italia donde realizó las primeras publicaciones científicas. En 1879 decide venir al Nuevo Mundo, para cumplir su anhelo naturalista, y es así; que se embarca en ese año rumbo a Brasil, donde no puede permanecer debido a una epidemia de fiebre amarilla y decide continuar rumbo a Buenos Aires.

Al fallecer, dejó sembradas las simientes para las futuras generaciones, que nunca podrá dejar de valorar su actividad incansable y su vocación por las Ciencias Naturales en general y la Micología en particular.
