Emo Jimmy Butler, also known as Jimmy Butler Emo Hair, refers to discussions and memes about professional NBA player Jimmy Butler and his supposed partiality towards the emo subculture and its aesthetics. Discussions about Butler being emo were sparked by a clip in which he could be heard listening to the band My Chemical Romance in September 2023. Shortly after on October 2nd, Butler debuted his new emo look during Miami Heat's media day, sporting straight hair parted to the side and new piercings on his eyebrow and nose.
Origin
Rumors about Jimmy Butler being emo were initially sparked by a video he posted to his Instagram Story on September 27th, 2023, in which My Chemical Romance's song "Helena" could be heard playing in the background. The video can be accessed via a repost to the subreddit /r/nba, where it gathered over 6,000 upvotes in five days (shown below).[1]

On October 2nd, 2023, Butler then debuted an "emo" look for the Miami Heat's media day, sporting straightened black hair parted to the side and what appeared to be new piercings on his eyebrow and nose. A video about Butler's look from the official X[2] account of the Heat (@MiamiHEAT) that same day gathered over 11,000 likes in an hour (seen below).

On October 2nd, 2023, the X[3] account @ClutchPoints posted a graphic showing the difference between Butler's look for media day in the year 2022 when he sported a long dreaded hairstyle different from his regular appearance. The post points toward Butler's history of performing gags on media day, given that photos taken during the event tend to be used for the rest of the season (seen below).
Also on October 2nd, the X[4] account @DailyLoud reposted a video of Butler's entire "emo" outfit, gathering over 5,000 likes in an hour (seen below).
