Summary
| Description |
Throughout Mexico many people have statues of San Judas Tadeo (Jude the Apostle), the patron saint of desperate cases and lost causes (thus criminals). Many Mexicans believe that if they leave money as an “offering” to statues of San Judas Tadeo that his spirit will reward them with financial gain. This is an example of ritual conduct, which in anthropology is termed “sympathetic magic”. (The money is not really an “offering” because it will go back to the family one day.) |
