MILWAUKEE— Colorado Mesa University triathlete
Shannon Feran claimed an impressive victory at Sunday's Toyota USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships held in the city.
She finished the event with a time of 34 minutes and six seconds to win the overall women's title by nearly six seconds and the 20-24 age group by 46.56 seconds. More than 900 (928) women competed, including 48 in the 20-24 age group, according to
the results page.
Due to weather conditions, the event was changed from a Sprint Distance to Super Sprint Distance with a time trial start. The course consisted of a 385-meter swim, a 10.7-kilometer bike segment and 2.5-kilometer run.
Feran completed the swim segment in 5:09, the bike in 17:00 and the run in 9:13 while spending 2:46 in transition and was quoted by the
USA Triathlon Instagram post as saying, "My goal this season was to get a banner of some sort from some race. I got that banner and I'm super excited."
A native of Broomfield, Colorado, Feran claimed three top-10 finishes during the 2021 collegiate season, including an eighth-place finish at the Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championships, good to earn Second Team Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association All-America honors.
