1968 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Hearse

This 1968 Cadillac was converted into a hearse by Miller-Meteor of Piqua, Ohio, and features a Trimatic electrically operated, three-way-adjustable sliding casket table in the rear compartment that can be loaded from the rear as well as both side doors. Power is provided by a 472ci V8 paired with a Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission, and features include a black vinyl roof, pillarless door openings, a rear access door, power steering, power drum brakes, 15″ steel wheels with full covers. It was acquired by the owner in 2016, and subsequent work consisted of refinishing the front clip, rebuilding the carburetor performing a valve job, replacing the camshaft, spark plugs, ignition wires, head gaskets, water pump, lifters, hoses, and belts. This Fleetwood-based hearse is offered in Maryland by the seller on behalf of the owner with service records and a clean Virginia title in the name of the owner’s LLC.

Miller-Meteor began building hearses in 1957 exclusively on a Cadillac commercial chassis. This example is finished in black and features a black vinyl roof, pillarless door openings on either side, a rear access door, polished trim, quad headlamps, vertical taillamps, and Miller-Meteor badging on the rear quarter panels. The front clip was stripped and refinished in 2016, and there are rust bubbles on the rear doors and rear quarter panels.

The 15″ steel wheels wear polished Cadillac covers and are mounted with Hankook Optimo H724 narrow-whitewall tires. A full-size spare is mounted below the casket table. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted drums at all four corners.

The cabin features a front bench seat upholstered in brown leather joined by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and rear storage panels. Equipment includes manually-operated windows, a white headliner, and rubber floor mats. The front carpet is missing, and the air conditioning does not work.

The rear compartment is equipped with white privacy curtains, upholstered side panels, and a Trimatic electrically operated, three-way-adjustable sliding casket table that can be loaded from the rear or side doors.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, an electric clock, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 94k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added during current ownership. The fuel gauge does not work.

The 472ci V8 breathes through a four-barrel carburetor and features a power steering cooler and blue valve covers. Work in 2021 consisted of performing a valve job, rebuilding the carburetor, and replacing the camshaft, spark plugs, ignition wires, head gaskets, water pump, lifters, hoses, and belts.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission. Corrosion is visible on the underside.
