  2. She is beautiful. I actually know a decorative painting teacher that offers classes in this style of painting. She uses heat-set oils (which work like regular oil paint, but with no smell and they don’t ‘dry’ until heated. That is great for people like me, as I am allergic to oil paint!) and the result is beautiful. Her name is Mary Kingslan-Gibilisco if you wish to see her work.

The painting here is just lovely to look at. It certainly romanticizes the role of the shepherdess, doesn’t it? Thanks for another thoughtful post. 🙂

    1. Good to know! I have not heard of heat-set oils, but the “no smell” part sounds great. My pastel dust does not agree with me 😱, and I fear the regular oil paint fumes might bother me, also. Thanks for telling me about Mary Kingslan-Gibilisco. I found her classes here: https://kingslan.com/products.php?cat=Online+Video+Learning

      1. I have the Genesis paint from over 20 years ago and they are like brand new. They don’t dry until you heat them and you can make mixes and reuse every crumb of the paint. They are a unique product made by the maker of FEMO clay (polymer clay) so the paint uses the same principle. I don’t know if they are still made by them, (AMACO I think is the company) but they are really cool if you want paint that is workable. A very interesting product. 🙂

Every time I see one of Bouguereau’s barefooted maidens, I can’t help thinking of k.d. lang. At least in the past, she was given to performing barefoot in similarly simple costume, like this.
